Plot 111, Sandhills Holiday Park, Mudeford
Captain's Lodge:
This is a fully equipped lodge with double glazing and gas central heating. It is spacious and light with high ceilings. Vertical blinds are installed to cut out glare and help to keep the interior cool on very sunny days. The single bedroom is particularly roomy and is equipped with two 3ft beds and a walk-in wardrobe and storage. The wrap-around decking has a table, 4 folding chairs (with cushions), a parasol and is more than ample for four people. The steps leading up to the decking are ‘low rise’ making them easier to navigate for anyone with limited mobility.
Mudeford:
Mudeford is so well situated in Dorset and I have always thought how lucky we are to have two rivers – the Avon and the Stour – and the historic New Forest (a national park).
Sandhills has small gates that open directly onto the promenade that links Mudeford Quay with Avon Beach. To the left is Avon Beach with the Noisy Lobster and a lovely beach. To the right is a short walk to Mudeford Quay, Haven House Inn and Café, Local Fish Stall and Ferry.
Name of the lodge links to my son’s previous career as a Captain with P&O Cruise Line. He is now owner of the Mudeford Ferry which takes you across to the Mudeford Beach where you can explore the famous Hengistbury Head and nature reserve. On a sunny day, see if you can find the path that runs beside the lily pond! One of my favourite walks on the Head.
Christchurch:
From the Mudeford Beach pontoon you can also take the River Ferry up to Tuckton Bridge towards the historic town of Christchurch. Lots to explore there from the Priory, riverside walks, shops and the many tea rooms. Christchurch is also only a couple of miles away by car.
Further afield there is the New Forest with little villages such as Lymington, Burley, Brockenhurst and many more. I have lived in this area most of my life and I still find new roads I have not been down before. From Lymington you can take a ferry to Yarmouth and have a day out on the Isle of Wight, either as a foot passenger or take the car.
Bournemouth and Poole:
A few more miles beyond Christchurch are the largest towns in the area, full of shops, gardens and beaches. Beyond these towns there is the rest of Dorset to explore with its little villages and lovely countryside.

My daughter and I had a lovely 3 nights stay at The Captain’s Lodge at ‘Sandhills’.
The Lodge was very clean, well equipped, comfortable and spacious.
As well as the free parking and all the facilities at ‘Sandhills’ it is central for Mudeford Quay and also Avon Beach with all the facilities there. All just a short walk away!
No need to use the car, PERFECT!

Delighted with our choice and would stay there again.

We were staying in Christchurch for two weeks on grandparent duty and didn’t want to stay in a hotel for that long. We’ve walked past the Sandhills site on Avon Beach many times but never stayed there. We spoke to the team at Mudhuts who look after a lot of properties in the area. Jane, Jill and Sophie were great in identifying what would be most suitable for us and came up with Captains Lodge. It had everything we needed -space, very high spec- freezer, wifi, smart TV etc -and very cozy on cold evenings! Delighted with our choice and would stay there again and would use Mudhuts anytime we wanted to stay elsewhere in the area.

Had a recent stay at The Captains Lodge in Mudeford with Mud Huts and as usual we had a fantastic time and the lodge was beautiful, well equipped and very warm / comfortable in the sub zero temperatures. Such a wonderful place to spend the holiday, clean, well equipped, spacious and equipped with everything you need for a perfect stay. We have now used Mud Huts quite a few times, staying in various accommodation that they offer and have never been disappointed or had any issues, all goes smoothly and everything is in place for a wonderful break - in fact so good I’ve just booked again !!!

Stayed at The Captains Lodge 12-19 August. The Lodge was immaculately clean, the lounge area was really comfortable and the kitchen like home from home! The walk in wardrobes were luxurious as were the 2 bathrooms. Allocated parking was a nice addition too. The decking area was always sunny so we could have breakfast, lunch and dinner outside if we chose! Sandhills is a lovely quiet Holiday park and right on the beach so an excellent location. The ferry from Mudeford Quay to Hengistbury Head (& the Beach Bar) is a must. Overall, the perfect holiday for us (3 Adults)
We will be back!
